Motorola has shaken up the entry-level smartphone market with its new offering, Moto E. The new smartphone offers decent hardware, latest Android version, promises latest software updates and boasts of full-day battery life. With these features, Moto E seems to be a good option for those switching from feature phones or want a smartphone without burning a hole in their pocket.
We take a look at six reasons that make Moto E the best entry-level smartphone in India.

Moto E offers a 4.3-inch display, latest version of Android, dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB RAM, 5MP rear camera and full-day battery life (as Motorola claims) at just Rs 6,999. These features make Moto E among the best smartphones at this price point.

Moto E offers 4.3-inch display with 960x540p resolution in a segment dominated by 3.5-inch to 4-inch screens and low resolution displays. The touch experience is great, acknowledging the lightest of touch inputs easily. Additionally, the screen is layered with Gorilla Glass 3, so the display is better protected against scratches compared to rival handsets.
Even though contrast and viewing angles are not exactly something to write home about, Moto E’s display is among the best in the entry-level segment today.
Moto E is the only smartphone running the latest version of Android, KitKat. It comes with stock version of Google’s mobile operating system and is free of unnecessary bloatware.
Additionally, Motorola has already promised that it will seed the next major build of Android (expected to be Android 4.5 or 5.0, likely to be unveiled in June) to this smartphone.
No smartphone from a major company offers 1GB RAM at Rs 7,000. This is a huge plus for Motorola’s entry-level offering, as it is less likely to face ‘out of memory’ errors while running apps that demand resources. Moreover, the dual-core Snapdragon processor and Android 4.4, coupled with the 1GB of RAM, will ensure that the smartphone runs smoothly.
Moto E features a splash-resistant coating inside as well as outside the body, so that it can withstand a little water. This means that you don’t have water damage as soon as few drops of water hit the smartphone. Of course, you still can’t dunk it in the water and think that it will perform perfectly.
While most phones come with only black and white colour options, Moto E provides buyers the option to change the back cover to a more colourful hue. Some of the colour options include red, pink, green, yellow, turquoise etc. You can also opt for grip shells, which protect the device from damage in case it is dropped accidentally.
